What is neck pain?

Neck pain is a common problem with significant number of people experiencing neck pain some point in their lives. Neck pain can be caused by numerous spinal problems, such as muscle, joints, and/or nerve impingement. The head is supported by the lower neck and upper back, and it is a common area of neck pain. Problem in the lower neck region can cause muscles to tighten leading to neck pain.

What are symptoms of neck pain?

Neck pain might being as acute due to injury and gradually become chronic. Managing pain appropriately at an early stage can help limit symptoms in both time and intensity. Identifying the symptoms and getting a diagnosis that pinpoints the underlying cause of your symptoms is the first step in obtaining effective pain relief, which may include:

  • Tingling
  • Dull ache or sharp with/without movement
  • Referred pain in the head or shoulder
  • Muscle spasms

Pain that lasts more than 3 months is considered to be chronic. If your neck pain doesn’t get better within couple of days, you should consult a health practitioner. What causes neck pain?

Neck pain may come from any of the structure in the neck including vascular, muscular, nerve, and skeletal or referred pain from other areas of the body.
